About Tsuri Taro
Tsuri Taro came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1994, a release from Jaleco. It was part of that era on the SNES where you saw a lot of games trying different things, often with a specific theme or gimmick that set them apart from the more straightforward platformers and RPGs.
You control a young boy named Taro, and the entire game is built around fishing. Your main goal is to explore the world, screen by screen, and catch a legendary giant fish. The core mechanics involve casting your line into bodies of water, waiting for a bite, and then engaging in a tug of war minigame to reel the fish in. Different fish require different strategies, and you use the fish you catch to solve puzzles or trade for better equipment. The pacing is deliberate, focused on patience and observation rather than quick action, and it can be quite challenging to hook the larger, more elusive species. It feels like a quiet, methodical puzzle game disguised as a fishing trip.
