About Tsuppari Oozumou - Risshin Shusse Hen (japan)
Tsuppari Oozumou - Risshin Shusse Hen came out in 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, published by K. Amusement Leasing Co. It was one of many Japanese exclusive titles that never made it overseas, a sumo wrestling game that tried to do something a bit different from the usual sports simulations of that era on the SNES.
You control a young sumo wrestler aiming to climb the ranks. The main objective is to win matches and rise through the divisions to eventually become a yokozuna, the highest rank. The game mixes traditional side view sumo bouts with an overworld map where you travel between tournaments and training dojos. Between matches, you manage your wrestler's condition and finances, choosing when to train, rest, or travel. The training minigames are simple but directly improve your character's stats for the next fight. The difficulty comes from balancing your energy and money while facing increasingly tough opponents. It feels like a slow, deliberate grind where every decision matters.
