True Lies on SNES is one of those licensed games that actually gets the vibe right—you play as Arnold Schwarzenegger’s secret agent, blasting through levels that feel ripped straight from the movie. The controls are surprisingly tight for a 16-bit shooter, and the pixel art nails the cheesy action flick aesthetic.
First mission? You’re dropped into a nightclub shootout, dodging bullets behind tables while henchmen pour in from all sides. The soundtrack’s got that classic SNES punch, all bassy explosions and synth beats. Some levels switch it up with vehicle sections (the motorcycle chase is janky but weirdly fun), and yeah, you’ll definitely recognize a few one-liners from the film.
It’s not perfect—the hit detection can be brutal, and later stages get mean with enemy spam—but if you’re into ‘90s action cheese, this one’s a solid time capsule. Just don’t expect a cakewalk.
