About True Lies (beta)
I remember picking up True Lies for the Super Nintendo back in 1994. It was developed by Beam Software, and it fit right in with the other action titles of the era. The game follows the plot of the movie, putting you in the role of Harry Tasker, a secret agent who uncovers a terrorist plot.
You control Harry through side-scrolling levels, moving screen by screen. Your main goal is to stop the terrorist group, the Crimson Jihad, by fighting through their members across various locations. You use a standard pistol with limited ammo, but you can pick up more powerful weapons like Uzis and grenade launchers from defeated enemies. The levels are linear but filled with enemies and occasional platforming sections. The pacing is fast, and the difficulty can be punishing, demanding quick reflexes to survive the constant enemy fire. Playing it feels like a tense, straightforward run-and-gun experience from that period.
