About Traverse - Starlight & Prairie (japan)
Traverse: Starlight & Prairie came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Pandora Box. It was one of many role playing games on the system that tried to build on the foundations laid by earlier titles, offering a large world to explore without the marketing push of a major publisher.
You control a young hero on a journey across fields and through dungeons, moving screen by screen in an overhead perspective. Your main goal is to recover the scattered pieces of a celestial artifact, which involves navigating maze like forests, solving simple block pushing puzzles, and fighting monsters in turn based battles. You can switch between using a sword for close attacks and a bow for striking enemies from a distance, a choice that becomes important in certain boss fights. The game's pacing is deliberate, sometimes slowing as you backtrack to find a missed key or item. Despite some uneven difficulty spikes, moving through its quiet, colorful landscapes gives the adventure a thoughtful, almost solitary feeling.
