Traverse - Starlight & Prairie is one of those obscure Super Famicom JRPGs that slipped under the radar—probably because it never left Japan. You start off picking between two main characters (a wandering swordsman or a runaway princess), and right away, the vibe is classic 16-bit charm with these gorgeous, slightly melancholic overworld tracks.
Combat’s your standard turn-based stuff, but there’s a weirdly satisfying rhythm to it—enemies hit hard if you’re careless, and some of the boss fights actually make you think instead of just mashing attack. The translation patches floating around are rough, but hey, that just adds to the charm of figuring out what the heck that NPC in the third village actually wanted.
If you’re into digging up forgotten JRPGs with solid spritework and a moody atmosphere, this one’s a neat little time capsule.
