Man, Toy Story on SNES is one of those licensed games that actually got it right. You start off as Woody, jumping over crayons and dodging toy cars in Andy’s room—until suddenly you’re sneaking through Pizza Planet or running from a robotic claw in Sid’s nightmare house. The pixel art nails the movie’s vibe, especially Buzz’s goofy little sprint animation.
It’s not just a reskin of some generic platformer, either. Some levels have you switching between Woody and Buzz mid-stage, using their different moves to solve puzzles (Buzz’s jetpack is weirdly satisfying). And yeah, the RC car chase? Still stressful after all these years. The music’s full of those bouncy SNES synths that somehow make stacking alphabet blocks feel epic.
If you grew up with the movie, it’s pure nostalgia. If you didn’t? Still a solid platformer with way more creativity than it needed to have. Just watch out for those mutant toys in the dark.
