About Total Carnage (europe)
Total Carnage came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Malibu Games. It was a time when top down run and gun shooters were a solid part of the SNES library, and this one fit right in with its straightforward, action focused premise.
You control a lone commando, dropped into hostile territory to rescue hostages and eliminate a madman known as General Akhboob. The game plays out screen by screen; you clear each area of all enemies before you can move on. Your main tools are a rapid fire machine gun and a limited supply of powerful screen clearing bombs. The pacing is relentless, with enemies swarming from all directions, and the difficulty is punishing if you try to stand still for too long. It feels like a constant, frantic scramble for survival where every corner could be your last.
