About Torneko No Daibouken - Fushigi No Dungeon
I first played Torneko No Daibouken on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System back in 1993. It was developed by Chunsoft, and it stood out as an early example of a mystery dungeon game on the platform. While many games of that era focused on action, this one offered a different kind of challenge, rooted in careful planning and exploration.
You control Torneko, the merchant from Dragon Quest, as he ventures into randomly generated dungeons. Your main goal is to delve deep, floor by floor, to find the ultimate treasure. The game is played screen by screen, with turn based movement; every step you take also advances the enemies. You use swords and bows in straightforward combat, but managing your inventory is crucial because items can break or be cursed. The pacing is slow and deliberate, and the difficulty is punishing; a single mistake can erase hours of progress. It feels like a tense, methodical puzzle where survival depends on your wits more than your reflexes.
