Top Racer 2 (or Top Gear 2 if you're playing the Western version) is one of those SNES racers that feels simple at first—just pick a car and go—but gets surprisingly deep once you realize how much your upgrades matter. You’re racing across 16 countries, from tight city streets to wide-open desert tracks, and the handling changes enough between them that you’ll actually notice when your suspension or gearbox needs tuning.
What I like is how the prize money forces you to make tough choices early on. Do you splurge on better tires now, or save up for a turbo upgrade that’ll pay off later? The tracks get brutal fast if you ignore your car’s weak spots. And yeah, the music’s still that same synth-heavy soundtrack you either love or hate—no in-between.
It’s not the prettiest racer on the SNES, but the pacing and customization keep it fun even when you’re grinding for cash. Just don’t expect to win Monaco with a stock engine.
