Timecop came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed by Cryo Interactive. It was part of that wave of games trying to do something cinematic on the console, using the hardware to push visual storytelling. You see a lot of that ambition in the mid-90s SNES library, where developers were experimenting beyond the standard platformer or RPG formulas.

You play as a Time Enforcement Commission agent, moving through static, screen by screen environments across different eras. Your main goal is to stop a criminal from altering history, which involves a lot of careful exploration and combat. The signature mechanics are your time travel device, used to solve environmental puzzles, and a targeting system for your weapon that requires you to stand still and aim. The pacing is deliberate, almost slow, and the difficulty comes from precise timing and managing your limited resources. Playing it feels like working through a methodical, sometimes unforgiving, point and click adventure translated into an action format.
