About Timecop (europe)
Timecop for the Super Nintendo came out in 1995 from Cryo Interactive. It was one of many movie tie-ins on the system, a period where licensed games were common and their quality varied widely. This one tried to capture the high concept of the film on the 16 bit hardware.
You control Agent Walker, a Time Enforcement Commission officer. Your job is to jump between different time periods to stop a criminal from altering history. The game is a side scrolling action platformer. You move screen by screen, fighting enemies with your pistol and occasionally using time grenades. The main objective is to complete missions across levels set in the past, present, and future. The pacing is methodical, as you often need to find specific items or keys to progress, and the difficulty can be unforgiving with precise platforming required. Playing it feels like a deliberate, sometimes clunky, trip through a sci fi premise.
