I remember picking up The Tick for the Super Nintendo back in 1994. It was developed by Software Creations, and it landed right in the middle of the SNES era when licensed games based on cartoons were everywhere. This one stood out because it was based on the absurd superhero from the comic and the animated series, and it tried to do something a bit different from the typical beat 'em up.

You control the big, blue, nigh-invulnerable Tick himself, brawling through city streets and enemy hideouts. The main goal is to punch and kick your way through waves of villains to stop the evil Chairface Chippendale. You move screen by screen, clearing all the enemies in one area before you can proceed to the next. Along the way, you can pick up temporary power-ups, like a bowling ball you throw or a super jump, to mix up the combat. The pacing is pretty relentless, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly with certain enemy types. It feels chaotic and a little silly, just like controlling a cartoon character who shouts "Spoon!" while he fights.
