Okay, so The Simpsons: Bart’s Nightmare is this weird, fever-dream SNES game where Bart falls asleep over his homework and ends up in a bunch of bizarre mini-worlds. One second you’re dodging giant pencils and mutant A+ papers, the next you’re shrinking down to fight germs inside Lisa’s bloodstream—it’s all over the place, but in that classic early-90s Simpsons way.
The controls are a little janky (this was 1992, after all), but there’s something weirdly charming about how chaotic it is. You’ll recognize a ton of show references—Sideshow Bob pops up, the Itchy & Scratchy level is pure chaos—and the music’s got that goofy Simpsons vibe. Just don’t expect it to hold your hand; half the fun is figuring out what the heck you’re even supposed to do next.
It’s not the most polished platformer, but if you grew up with the show or love weird retro games, it’s a nostalgia trip worth taking. Just maybe keep a walkthrough handy.
