Man, The Magical Quest was one of those SNES games that just oozed Disney charm. You start off chasing Pluto through this weirdly ominous forest—next thing you know, Pete’s goons snatch him, and Mickey’s off on this surprisingly tough little adventure.
The costumes are the real star here. That magician robe lets you zap enemies with these satisfying little sparkles, while the firefighter gear turns you into a walking water cannon. First time I played, I totally missed the climbing gear in the first level and kept faceplanting into spikes. Classic 90s platformer logic.
It’s got that perfect balance of being bright and cartoony but weirdly punishing if you rush. The music’s pure Disney magic too—that bouncy main theme still gets stuck in my head. If you’ve got a soft spot for old-school platformers with personality, this one holds up way better than it has any right to.
