Okay, so The Great Battle V is one of those SNES games that somehow flew under the radar but absolutely shouldn’t have. It’s this weird, chaotic mashup of side-scrolling action and strategy—like if someone took a Saturday morning anime, a tactical RPG, and a beat-em-up, then cranked the dial to "maximum fun."
You start off picking from a roster of heroes (I always went for the samurai first, no regrets), and then it just throws you into these insane levels where you’re juggling sword combos, dodging enemy fire, and occasionally calling in backup fighters. The pixel art’s got that classic 90s charm—big, expressive sprites, explosions everywhere—and the controls are tight enough that when you die, you know it’s your fault.
It’s not *easy*, though. Some of those later stages feel like the game’s actively trolling you, but in a way that makes you want to try again immediately. And the soundtrack? Pure hype. If you’ve got a soft spot for SNES-era chaos, this one’s a blast.
