I remember picking up The Combatribes for the Super Nintendo back in 1992. It was developed by Technos Japan, the same company behind the Double Dragon series, which gave me a good idea of what to expect. This was during that early SNES period when beat 'em ups were a dominant genre, and every new release promised another round of urban brawling.

You control one of three vigilantes, each with their own fighting style, cleaning up the city by taking on violent gangs. The main objective is to fight through each stage, defeating all the thugs and a boss at the end to rescue hostages. The game plays out screen by screen; you can't proceed until you clear the current area of enemies. Signature mechanics include throwing enemies into the background or foreground, which was a neat trick for the time, and using weapons like pipes and knives you pick up from the ground. The pacing is fast and the difficulty is pretty unforgiving, demanding quick reflexes and good crowd control. It feels like a straightforward, aggressive brawl where you're constantly surrounded and have to fight your way out.
