Ever played a beat 'em up where you can suplex dudes through glass ceilings? That’s The Combatribes—a gloriously over-the-top SNES brawler where you pick between three steroid-fueled vigilantes and just start wrecking entire gangs. I went with Bullova first because, well, the guy’s built like a fridge with arms.
It’s got that classic arcade vibe: neon-lit alleys, goons flying everywhere, and bosses who look like they escaped from a heavy metal album cover. The soundtrack’s all screeching guitars and punch noises, which fits perfectly when you’re clotheslining someone into a dumpster. And yeah, the two-player co-op’s chaotic in the best way—my friend kept accidentally throwing me instead of enemies, which somehow made it even funnier.
Not gonna lie, some of the enemy patterns feel cheap after the third stage, but that’s part of the charm. You’ll either love it or rage-quit trying to beat the mohawked lunatic on the motorcycle. Either way, it’s a time capsule of ‘90s muscle-bound madness.
