Ever played Tetris against a friend and wished you could mess with their screen? That’s basically Tetris Battle Gaiden—a Japan-only SNES gem where dropping blocks is just half the fun. You pick from weird little characters (some throw fireballs, others slow your opponent’s pieces), and suddenly it’s less about clearing lines and more about chaos. First time I tried it, I went with the samurai because, well, samurai—turns out his ability to flip rows is brutal when timed right.
The music’s got that classic SNES charm, and the pixel art gives everything this goofy energy. It’s still Tetris at heart, but with enough twists to make even veterans panic when their screen starts filling with garbage blocks out of nowhere. Definitely one of those "wait, how was this not released everywhere?" games.
