I remember picking up Tetris 2 for the Super Nintendo in 1994, a game Nintendo published. It arrived during a time when the SNES library was full of familiar names getting new twists, and this was clearly an attempt to evolve the original formula rather than just re-release it.

You control the familiar falling blocks, but the goal is different. Instead of clearing horizontal lines, you must clear colored blocks from the screen by matching three or more of the same color. The main mechanics involve dropping a pair of blocks at a time and using special flashing bomb blocks that clear all blocks of a single color when they land. The pace is methodical, and the difficulty comes from the screen filling up with colors you can no longer match. It feels like a more deliberate and sometimes tense puzzle compared to the rapid line clearing of the original.
