I first came across Tenshi No Uta: Shiroki Tsubasa No Inori on the Super Nintendo back in 1994. It was published by Nippon Telenet, and it felt like a late era SNES title, one of those games that arrived when developers were really pushing what the hardware could do visually. It had that distinct look and feel of a mid-90s Japanese action RPG.

You control a young hero exploring a world from a top-down perspective, moving screen by screen through towns, fields, and dungeons. Your main goal is to progress through the story, which involves navigating these areas and engaging in combat with enemies you encounter on the map. A couple of its signature mechanics include using both a sword for close attacks and a bow for ranged combat, and you spend a good amount of time delving into multi-level dungeons to find key items. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty can be challenging, especially in some of the later dungeon puzzles and enemy encounters. Playing it feels like a methodical journey where every new screen holds a small discovery or a fresh obstacle.
