About Tenchi O Kurau - Sangokushi Gunyuuden (japan)
Tenchi o Kurau: Sangokushi Gunyuuden came out for the Super Nintendo in 1995, developed and published by Capcom. It was part of a wave of action games on the system that drew heavily from historical and literary sources, in this case the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. You don't see many official English releases for this one, but it found its audience.
You control one of several generals from the era, like the powerful Lu Bu, and fight through side-scrolling stages. Your main goal is to clear each area of enemy soldiers and their commanders, advancing the narrative of the turbulent war. Signature mechanics include using a powerful screen-clearing special attack that drains your health and the ability to call a horse for faster movement and new attacks. The pacing is aggressive, with enemies swarming from both sides, and the difficulty can be punishing if you rush in. It feels like a relentless test of your positioning and timing against overwhelming odds.
