Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a beat 'em up video game released for the MS-DOS platform in 1989. It was developed by Konami Industry Co. Ltd. and published by the Ultra Software Corporation. The game is based on the popular comic and animated series, casting players as the four mutant turtle brothers in a mission to rescue their allies from the villainous Shredder.

Players control the four Ninja Turtles—Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael—through a series of urban environments. The primary objective is to rescue the reporter April O'Neil and later their mentor, Splinter, culminating in a confrontation with the Shredder within his Technodrome fortress. Gameplay alternates between two distinct perspectives. A top-down, bird's-eye view is used for navigating larger areas like city streets and sewers, allowing for exploration and direction finding. Upon entering specific buildings or enemy hideouts, the perspective shifts to a side-scrolling view where the majority of the direct combat occurs.

In the side-scrolling segments, players engage in hand-to-hand combat against waves of Foot Clan ninjas and other enemies. Each turtle is equipped with his signature primary weapon, such as Leonardo's katanas or Donatello's bo staff. During play, characters can also collect limited-use sub-weapons like shurikens to attack foes from a distance. Progression through the game involves fighting through these enemy-filled stages, defeating bosses, and ultimately overcoming the challenges within the Technodrome to achieve the rescue missions.
