Alright, so Tecmo Super NBA Basketball—this is the follow-up to Tecmo NBA Basketball, and honestly, it’s a solid step up. You’ve got all the NBA teams here, and the controls feel smoother than the first game. The sprites are chunkier, more detailed, and the animations actually make sense when you’re driving to the hoop or pulling up for a jumper.
First few minutes in, you’ll notice the pacing is faster than you’d expect for an early ‘90s basketball sim. Dunks feel satisfyingly weighty, and the AI isn’t completely brain-dead—they’ll actually try to block you if you keep driving baseline. The soundtrack’s got that classic SNES synth vibe, too, which somehow makes missing a free throw less painful.
It’s not perfect—some of the passing mechanics are a little stiff, and good luck figuring out the ref’s foul calls—but if you’re into retro sports games, this one’s a fun time. Just don’t expect modern NBA 2K depth.
