Man, Tecmo Super Bowl III on SNES is one of those games that feels like it should’ve been a bigger deal. It’s got all the real NFL teams and players from the ’94 season—right down to the photos and schedules—which was pretty wild for the time. The gameplay’s solid, with way more control than earlier versions. You can actually fake punts (if you’re feeling risky), tweak your formations mid-play, and even mess around with audibles.
Superstar Mode is where it gets fun—you pick a player and basically live their career, dealing with free agency and stat boosts. The graphics got a nice bump too, with bigger sprites and smoother animations. And yeah, the speech is still hilariously robotic, but it’s weirdly charming. Battery save means you don’t have to write down passwords like some caveman, which is nice.
It’s not perfect—the AI can be a little predictable, and the playbook isn’t as deep as later Madden games—but if you’re into old-school football sims, this one’s a solid pick. Just don’t expect it to dethrone Tecmo Bowl in nostalgia points.
