Tecmo Secret of the Stars is one of those SNES RPGs that flew under the radar, but it’s got its own weird charm. You start as Ray, some kid who gets told he’s gotta save the world—classic setup—but then it throws in this whole "Aquatallion" warrior thing where you level up through ranks like some mystical promotion ladder.
What’s cool is you pick up other characters along the way who also turn out to be destined for this Aquatallion business. The combat’s pretty standard turn-based stuff, but there’s a weird twist where you can split your party into two groups, which actually makes some fights way more interesting than they should be.
Yeah, it’s no Final Fantasy, but if you’re into that mid-90s RPG vibe with a side of janky-but-endearing mechanics, it’s a solid deep cut. Just don’t go in expecting a masterpiece.
