I picked up Tactical Soccer for the Super Nintendo back in 1995, a game published by Electronic Arts Victor. It was a time when sports games were really branching out on the SNES, trying new things beyond just straight simulations. This one was a sequel to Zico Soccer, and it definitely had its own approach to the sport.

You control an entire soccer team, but the game plays out more like a turn based strategy title than a typical arcade match. Your main objective is to outmaneuver the opposing team and score goals by carefully moving your players across a grid based field. Signature mechanics include planning your players' movements and passes during your turn, then watching the action unfold in a brief resolution phase. You also manage player stamina, which affects how far they can run and the power of their kicks. The pacing is deliberate and thoughtful, requiring you to anticipate your opponent's moves several steps ahead. It feels like a genuine test of foresight and positioning rather than just quick reflexes.
