Super Troll Islands on SNES is one of those weird, colorful platformers that feels like it fell out of a cartoon from the '90s. You control these little troll dudes—each with their own dumb little power, like throwing rocks or bouncing—and hop through these bright, slightly janky levels full of hidden paths and annoying enemies.
At first, I thought it was just another forgettable platformer, but there’s something oddly charming about how chaotic it gets. One minute you’re carefully jumping over spikes, the next you’re getting chased by a giant rolling boulder while your troll yells in panic. The puzzles aren’t exactly brain-melting, but figuring out which troll’s ability to use where keeps it from feeling too repetitive.
It’s not perfect—some of the hit detection is questionable, and the music loops way too fast—but if you’re into weird retro games with personality, this one’s worth a look. Just don’t expect it to play fair all the time.
