Super Snakey is one of those weird little SNES games that never made it outside Japan, but it’s got this oddly satisfying loop. You control a snake—not the pixelated Nokia kind, but a chunky, colorful one—slithering around eating fruit while avoiding walls and your own tail. The controls are simple, but the speed ramps up fast, and before long you’re making dumb mistakes because you panicked.
What’s cool is the power-ups. Some make your snake invincible for a few seconds, others slow time, and there’s even one that lets you phase through walls (which feels like cheating, honestly). The music’s got that classic SNES chirpiness, and the stages get wild with obstacles like moving blocks and teleporters. It’s not deep, but it’s the kind of game you boot up when you just want to zone out for 10 minutes.
If you’re into retro arcade-style stuff, this one’s a fun hidden gem. Just don’t blame me when you lose because you got greedy for one last apple.
