About Super Slapshot (japan)
Super Slapshot came out for the Super Nintendo in 1993, published by Virgin Interactive. It was part of that wave of sports games trying to capture the fast, arcade feel on the 16-bit console, sitting alongside other hockey titles but with its own particular style. You don't see it discussed as much as some of the bigger names from that year, but it had a presence.
You control a five man hockey team, switching between players to chase the puck. The main goal is to outscore the opponent within three periods. Its signature mechanics include a power meter for slap shots, which you charge up for a harder, faster shot, and a body check button for physically disrupting the other team's players. The game moves at a quick pace, and the computer opponents can be surprisingly aggressive, making it challenging to maintain possession. It feels like a simplified, energetic version of hockey where a well-timed check or a powered-up shot can quickly turn the game around.
