About Super Shougi 2 (japan)
Super Shougi 2 came out in 1993 for the Super Nintendo, published by I'Max Corp. It was one of many Japanese strategy titles that never left the country, a deep shogi simulation for players who already knew the rules. If you were into traditional board games on the SNES, this was a serious option, not a flashy one.
You control all your shogi pieces, moving them across the board to capture your opponent's king. The main objective is to win each match, either by checkmate or by forcing a resignation. Key mechanics include dropping captured pieces back onto the board as your own, a rule unique to shogi that completely changes how you plan attacks and defend your position. The game offers different computer opponents with adjustable difficulty, and the pacing is slow and thoughtful, demanding careful consideration of every move. Playing it feels like a pure, concentrated test of your ability to think several steps ahead.
