Super Shougi 2 is one of those deep, no-frills shogi games for the SNES—if you're into traditional Japanese chess, this one's got you covered. The board looks crisp, pieces move smoothly, and the AI doesn’t mess around, so expect to lose a few matches before you start figuring out strategies. No fancy animations or over-the-top effects, just pure shogi with a clean interface.
It’s Japan-only, so the menus are in Japanese, but if you’ve played shogi before, you’ll recognize the symbols. The controls are simple enough once you get the hang of them, though dropping pieces back onto the board after capturing them still trips me up sometimes. Definitely a solid pick if you want an authentic shogi experience without distractions.
