Super Robot Taisen EX is one of those classic SNES mecha RPGs where you're thrown into a war between giant robots and evil forces—and yeah, you're basically the only hope. The first thing that hits you is the roster: Gundams, Mazinger, and a bunch of other iconic bots from different anime series, all mashed together. At first, I had no clue which units to focus on, but after a few battles, you start figuring out who wrecks shop and who’s just cannon fodder.

Battles play out on a grid, and positioning matters way more than you’d think. If you just rush in, some enemy ace will snipe your best unit from halfway across the map. The story’s all in Japanese, but if you’re familiar with the series, you’ll recognize the usual tropes—heroic last stands, dramatic mid-battle upgrades, and villains who love monologuing. The soundtrack’s got that classic SNES synth-rock vibe, too.

It’s not the deepest SRW game, but if you love mecha or old-school tactical RPGs, this one’s a solid time. Just be ready for some grinding.
