Super Robot Taisen EX is one of those SNES games where you spend half your time geeking out over the roster—Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, Gundam, all the heavy hitters—and the other half sweating over grid-based battles where one wrong move gets your favorite mech wrecked. The first time I played, I just shoved my units forward like an idiot and got smacked by enemy reinforcements. Lesson learned.
It’s got that classic SRW mix of crunchy tactical combat and anime melodrama—expect a lot of pilots yelling about justice mid-battle while beam swords clash. The branching story paths are cool, though I still get stuck sometimes trying to remember which choices unlock the secret units. Pro tip: Grinding morale early pays off when you need your super moves to actually land.
If you’ve played any of the later games, the interface here feels a little stiff, but there’s charm in its old-school simplicity. Just don’t expect flashy animations—this is pure 16-bit grid warfare with a killer soundtrack.
