Super R-Type is one of those classic SNES shooters that looks deceptively simple at first—until you realize how brutal it actually is. You pilot the R-9 spaceship through side-scrolling levels packed with enemy swarms, screen-filling bosses, and those infamous instant-death walls that close in on you. The pixel art still holds up, especially the massive alien designs that fill half the screen when they show up.

What makes it tricky is the lack of checkpoints—die at the boss, and you're back at the start of the level. The weapon upgrade system is cool though; you collect orbs that let you cycle between different shot types, and figuring out which one works best for each stage is half the battle. Just don't expect a relaxing ride—this one's for fans of old-school punishment.
