Super R-Type was one of those SNES launch titles that made you feel like you'd just brought the arcade home. It's Irem's classic shoot 'em up, but with that crisp 16-bit glow—though honestly, it's still brutal. The first stage lulls you in with those smooth scrolling backgrounds and that iconic R-9 ship, then suddenly you're dodging bullet hell while trying to remember where the power-up pods spawn.
It's got that old-school arcade vibe where you'll die a lot before figuring out enemy patterns, but nailing a perfect run feels amazing. The music's got that crunchy SNES synth sound too—you'll either love it or it'll drill into your brain after a few loops. Just don't expect any mercy from the later levels.
