Super Puyo Puyo on SNES is that weird, kinda charming mix of falling blobs and RPG nonsense. You’re still matching colored Puyos like always, but now there’s this whole story mode where characters actually level up—which sounds ridiculous for a puzzle game, but somehow works? The first time I played, I got distracted by all the goofy dialogue between matches before realizing my Puyo skills were getting wrecked by some random enemy’s upgraded stats.

It’s got that classic Puyo feel—chains, garbage blocks, panic when you misdrop—but with this extra layer of progression that makes it feel like you’re grinding through a weird, pastel-colored dungeon. The SNES version’s got its own quirks too, like slightly different mechanics from the arcade original. If you’re into Puyo but want something with a little more… plot (sort of), this one’s a fun oddity.
