Super Power League is one of those hidden SNES sports gems that never made it outside Japan, which is a shame because it's got this weird, arcadey charm to it. You pick from a handful of international teams (of course I went for Brazil first) and jump into matches that feel faster and looser than your typical 90s soccer sim.

The sprites are chunky and colorful, and there's this satisfying "thunk" when you boot the ball halfway across the pitch. It's not as polished as International Superstar Soccer, but the controls are responsive, and the goalkeepers actually feel human—sometimes brilliant, sometimes hilariously bad. Found myself grinning when my striker accidentally bicycle-kicked a backpass straight into our own net.

If you dig retro sports games with personality, this one's worth digging up.
