Super Pinball II on SNES is one of those games that makes you realize how much personality a good pinball table can have. The first time I booted it up, I wasn’t expecting much—just some basic bumpers and ramps—but then I saw the wild, almost surreal designs of the tables. One’s got this ancient Egyptian theme with spinning pyramids, another’s a futuristic space station with gravity-defying loops.
The physics feel just right—not too floaty, not too stiff—and the ball has this satisfying weight to it when you nail a tricky shot. The sound effects are pure 16-bit bliss, from the metallic clack of the flippers to the little victory jingle when you hit a bonus. And yeah, the high score chase is real—I’ve lost way too many hours trying to top my own records.
It’s not the flashiest pinball game out there, but there’s something about the way it nails the basics that keeps me coming back. If you’ve got a soft spot for retro pinball, this one’s a no-brainer.
