About Super Oozumou -sen Daiichiban (japan)
Super Oozumou - Nessen Daiichiban came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1992, developed and published by Namco. It was part of that early wave of SNES releases, a time when developers were figuring out what the hardware could do, and this game is a quirky sumo wrestling title that never left Japan.
You control a sumo wrestler, moving from screen to screen in a side-view arena. The main goal is to push your opponent out of the ring or force them to touch the ground with any part of their body besides their feet. Your main mechanics are a quick, light slap to stun your rival and a slower, powerful shove to send them flying; you also need to carefully manage your stamina, as depleting it leaves you momentarily vulnerable. The pacing is fast, with matches that can end in seconds if you aren't paying attention, and the difficulty ramps up quickly as you face more aggressive opponents. It feels like a frantic, physical shoving match where a single mistake costs you the round.
