Super Nichibutsu Mahjong is one of those classic Japanese mahjong sims that feels like it was made for late-night sessions. The pixel art is clean, the tile sounds are satisfyingly clicky, and there’s just enough challenge to keep you from zoning out completely. It’s not flashy—just straight-up riichi mahjong with a no-nonsense UI.
First thing you’ll notice? The AI doesn’t mess around. You can tell this was made for players who already know their yaku from their pon. No hand-holding here, but if you’re into the rhythm of sorting tiles and waiting for that perfect draw, it’s weirdly addictive. The music’s got that ‘90s synth vibe too—kinda cheesy, but it grows on you.
Definitely a niche pick, but if you’ve got a Super Famicom and a soft spot for mahjong, it’s a solid time capsule.
