Super Momotarou Dentetsu II is one of those classic Japanese board game hybrids where you buy up train routes and try to bankrupt your friends—except here, everything’s wrapped in this weirdly charming folklore aesthetic. You’re basically rolling dice, snatching properties, and occasionally getting wrecked by random events (why is there always a typhoon right when I’m about to win?).
The SNES version smooths out some of the rough edges from the PC Engine days, and the pixel art has that cozy early ‘90s vibe. First time I played, I kept overspending on stations near the starting area, which… did not go well. Pro tip: save up for the long routes unless you enjoy watching the AI laugh at your poor financial decisions.
It’s way more chaotic than Monopoly, and the little character sprites celebrating when they land on your expensive stops never gets old.
