Super Metroid Revolution EX is basically the original Super Metroid, but someone cranked up the nostalgia dial and polished everything just enough to make it feel new again. The moment you drop onto Zebes, you’ll recognize the eerie atmosphere—those dripping caves, the distant alien screeches—but now the sprites are sharper, the colors pop more, and the music hits even harder.

They didn’t just slap a coat of paint on it, though. There are new power-ups tucked into familiar corners, and some of the old boss fights have surprise twists. I got wrecked by Kraid the first time because I wasn’t expecting his second phase. Classic Metroid exploration is still the heart of it—you’ll backtrack, get lost, and stumble into secret rooms like always—but the tweaks make it feel less punishing when you’re stuck.

If you’ve played the original a dozen times, this is the version that’ll make you fall in love all over again. And if you’re new? Honestly, this might be the best way to experience it.
