Okay, so Super Metroid Impossible is basically the original game cranked up to "why am I doing this to myself?" levels of hard. It’s a fan mod for the SNES version, and yeah, it looks familiar—same eerie planet Zebes, same eerie music—but everything hits harder. Enemies take more shots, jumps require pixel-perfect timing, and some of the puzzles? You’ll stare at the screen for way too long before realizing the solution was hidden behind some absurdly obscure trick.
At first, I thought it was just inflated difficulty for the sake of it, but there’s actually some clever redesign here. Boss patterns are remixed, power-ups are tucked away in places that make zero sense unless you’re willing to bomb every single wall, and good luck sequence-breaking unless you’ve memorized the whole map. It’s brutal, but weirdly satisfying when you finally nail a section after the 20th try.
If you’ve played the original to death and need a reason to sweat through it again, this’ll do it. Just don’t throw your controller.
