Okay, so Super Metroid - Vismunds Sidehopper Special is basically the SNES Metroid you remember, but cranked up a notch. You start off in that eerie, quiet ship—no hand-holding, just you and a planet full of weird alien creatures that absolutely do not want you there. The first time I played, I got lost almost immediately (in a good way), poking around dark corridors and realizing I needed some upgrade to get past a weird pink door.
The sidehoppers—those little jumping enemies—are way more aggressive here, which keeps you on your toes. And the music? Still haunting, still perfect. Boss fights feel meatier too, like they actually learned from your last attempt. If you’ve played the original, this version throws in just enough twists to make it fresh without wrecking what made the game great.
Honestly, it’s one of those rare mods that respects the source material while adding its own flavor. You’ll still spend half your time backtracking with new abilities, but now with a few extra “oh crap” moments.
