Super Metroid - NTSC PAL Expert Edition is basically the original SNES classic cranked up to 11. You still play as Samus, blasting through alien caverns and hunting for power-ups, but everything hits harder here—enemies take more shots, platforming requires pixel-perfect jumps, and some of those hidden paths? Good luck finding them without sweating a little.
First time I booted it up, I got wrecked by the very first room's enemies because I assumed it'd play like vanilla Super Metroid. Nope. The pacing's different too—you'll backtrack way more for upgrades you didn't realize you needed five minutes ago. If you've memorized the original's map, prepare to unlearn half of it.
That said, nailing a tricky sequence or finally grabbing that missile tank tucked behind three layers of fake walls feels incredible. This isn't just nostalgia bait—it's for players who thought the original was too forgiving. You'll either love the brutal tweaks or rage-quit before reaching Brinstar.
