Super Mario Story Game

Super Mario Story—or as most people know it, Super Mario RPG—is one of those SNES gems that still holds up. You start off with the usual "Bowser kidnaps Peach" setup, but then it takes this wild turn into turn-based battles with timed hits, weird little minigames, and a story that actually has some charm. The sprites are chunky and colorful, and the music? Absolute ear candy.
First 10 minutes? You're jumping on Goombas like normal, but then you realize you can team up with Bowser of all people, and suddenly you're fighting a sentient sword in a castle. It’s bizarre in the best way. The combat feels snappy once you get the hang of pressing the button at the right moment for extra damage—mess it up, and you’ll groan every time.
Honestly, it’s the kind of RPG that doesn’t overstay its welcome, with just enough secrets to make replays fun. If you missed this back in the day, it’s still a blast now.
