Super Mario Paint Game

Super Mario Paint is one of those weird, charming SNES oddities that never quite got a proper sequel. You boot it up expecting a simple drawing tool, but then there's this whole music composer, animation studio, and even a fly-swatting minigame crammed in there. The mouse peripheral makes it feel oddly ahead of its time—like a kid-friendly Photoshop with Mario characters awkwardly pasted in.
First thing you'll notice? The interface is clunky as hell by modern standards, but there's something satisfying about filling the canvas with those chunky 16-bit stamps. I spent way too long making terrible pixel art of Bowser, then realizing I could animate him walking (badly) frame by frame. The music tool's surprisingly deep too—if you can figure out how to use those tiny note icons.
Honestly half the fun comes from how janky it all feels now. Nintendo clearly threw everything at the wall to see what stuck. You'll either bounce off it immediately or lose an afternoon to the sheer novelty.
