Super Mario World came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 in Japan and 1991 in North America, developed and published by Nintendo. You control Mario, or sometimes Luigi, running and jumping through side scrolling levels filled with Goombas, Koopa Troopas, and Piranha Plants. The main goal is to rescue Princess Toadstool from Bowser, which means traversing the overworld map and completing levels to unlock new paths. Signature mechanics include finding secret exits to reveal hidden stages, which often involve flying with a Cape Feather or a careful mid air spin jump. Another key element is the variety of power ups; the Fire Flower lets you throw fireballs, but the new Cape Feather allows you to fly and glide, changing how you approach entire sections. The game starts simply but the difficulty builds steadily, especially in the special Star Road and Forest of Illusion areas where the platforming gets precise. It feels like a constant, rewarding discovery, whether you are bouncing off enemies or uncovering a keyhole to a hidden world.
