Super Marina World is one of those SNES games that somehow slipped under the radar back in the day, but it’s got this weirdly charming underwater vibe that sticks with you. You play as Marina—basically a mermaid with attitude—swimming through these bright, bubbly levels while dodging jellyfish and solving little puzzles to unlock new areas. The controls take a minute to get used to (floating physics always feel a little off at first), but once you’re zipping around, it clicks.

What really stands out is the music—super upbeat, almost like something from an old Disney cartoon. And the levels? They’re packed with little secrets, like hidden caves or clamshells that spit out power-ups. The sea witch boss fights can be brutal if you don’t figure out her patterns, but it’s the kind of game where you don’t mind retrying because the visuals are just so cheerful. If you’ve ever wished Mario had more swimming levels, this is basically that, but with way more coral reefs.

It’s not perfect—some of the later stages get unfairly tricky—but there’s something about the way it nails that ‘90s platformer feel that makes it worth revisiting.
