Super Mahjong Taikai is one of those classic '90s mahjong games that feels like it was made for late-night sessions. It’s got that SNES charm—bright colors, chunky tiles, and a soundtrack that somehow makes shuffling mahjong pieces feel intense. The CPU opponents aren’t pushovers, either—they’ll pull off sneaky wins if you’re not paying attention.
What I like is how straightforward it is. No gimmicks, just clean riichi mahjong with a few subtle touches, like the way the tiles clack when you pick them up. The Turbo CD version has slightly better music, but the Super Famicom one runs smoother. Either way, it’s a solid pick if you’re into retro mahjong games that don’t overcomplicate things.
Just don’t expect fancy animations or story modes—this is pure, old-school tile action.
