Super Mahjong 3 - Karakuchi is one of those late-era SNES mahjong games that actually holds up pretty well. The tiles have that satisfying chunky 16-bit look, and the AI opponents—while not geniuses—will still call you out if you take too long staring at your hand. There's a weirdly addictive rhythm to it once you get going.
First thing you'll notice is the jazzy background music (way more energy than you'd expect from a mahjong sim) and the little character portraits that react when someone wins a round. The menus are all in Japanese, but if you know the basic tile symbols, you can fumble through it. I lost my first three matches before realizing the game has a subtle hint system if you hover over possible moves.
Definitely a solid pick if you're into retro mahjong games with personality. Just don't expect the computer to go easy on you.
