Super James Pond II is one of those weird, charming SNES platformers that doesn’t take itself too seriously. You play as a fish—well, a secret agent fish named James Pond—hopping through levels filled with goofy enemies and underwater gags. The controls feel a little floaty at first, but once you get used to it, bouncing around and grabbing power-ups becomes oddly satisfying.
Some levels have you sneaking past guards in a trench coat (yes, really), while others throw you into full-on underwater shootouts. The art style’s got that early ‘90s cartoon vibe, with bright colors and exaggerated animations. It’s not the tightest platformer on the SNES, but there’s something endearing about its sheer ridiculousness.
If you’re into retro games with personality, this one’s worth a look—just don’t expect Mario-level polish.
